Why it is a Good Idea to have a Pinned Tweet on your Twitter Profile… and how to do it

So why would you want a pinned tweet on your Twitter profile?  First of all you might need to know exactly what a pinned tweet is, particularly if you are fairly new to Twitter.  Basically, it is a tweet that you have previously sent out and would like all viewers to see when they click on your profile.  A pinned tweet stays at the top of your timeline for as long as you wish.

Why would you want a pinned tweet on your Twitter profile?

If you have been retweeted by one of your followers, then returning the favour is much better than actually just thanking them.  If this follower has a pinned tweet then it makes it easy for you to share the most relevant content from that follower’s twitter timeline.  Just click the retweet button and you’re done.

So if you have a pinned tweet on your own timeline then you know:

  • Your followers won’t spend ages scrolling through your timeline to find one of your personal tweets.  If its too time consuming then they won’t bother at all
  • Your followers will be sharing content that is particularly relevant to you
